KIVFD Wine Pairing finds new venue
CHESTER — On Saturday evening, March 25, the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department hosted its 10th annual Wine Pairing. This year the fundraiser moved into the truck bays at the fire house. Also, that evening the fire department celebrated its 70th anniversary.
The first Wine Pairing was held at the Chesapeake Beach Club. Then, after the new firehouse opened, the event moved to the dining hall, and an outdoor tent was erected.
While prior attendance was always good, the venue was a little cramped. Moving into the fire truck bays expanded the space for everyone involved — the guests in attendance as well as the many local restaurants and food eateries that participated. It also provided the guests a different and refreshing look at the fire house for an evening event.
The restaurants and eateries that participated were: Bridge’s, Cafe’ Sado, Chesapeake Celebrations Catering, Chesapeake Chocolates, Fisherman’s Crab Deck, Fisherman’s Inn, Frix’s Fire Grill, Love Point Deli, Peace of Cake, Rustico, Smokehouse Grill, and The Narrows. Each prepared amazing specialties to sample from their places of business with appropriate wines to drink with each. Red and white wines, and in one case, a “candy wine” to go along with sweets provided.
Other drinks were also provided for those who don’t like wine. A variety of beers were on hand.
Larry and Toni Mitchell came from Bel Air. Toni said, “We’ve come to all 10 of these wine pairings over the years. It’s our favorite social event of the year! That’s why we come.” Everyone seemed to have a very good time.
