KIVFD Wine Pair­ing finds new venue

CH­ESTER — On Satur­day evening, March 25, the Kent Is­land Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment hosted its 10th an­nual Wine Pair­ing. This year the fundraiser moved into the truck bays at the fire house. Also, that evening the fire depart­ment cel­e­brated its 70th anniversary.

The first Wine Pair­ing was held at the Ch­e­sa­peake Beach Club. Then, af­ter the new fire­house opened, the event moved to the din­ing hall, and an out­door tent was erected.

While prior at­ten­dance was al­ways good, the venue was a lit­tle cramped. Mov­ing into the fire truck bays ex­panded the space for ev­ery­one in­volved — the guests in at­ten­dance as well as the many lo­cal restau­rants and food eater­ies that par­tic­i­pated. It also pro­vided the guests a dif­fer­ent and re­fresh­ing look at the fire house for an evening event.

The restau­rants and eater­ies that par­tic­i­pated were: Bridge’s, Cafe’ Sado, Ch­e­sa­peake Cel­e­bra­tions Cater­ing, Ch­e­sa­peake Choco­lates, Fish­er­man’s Crab Deck, Fish­er­man’s Inn, Frix’s Fire Grill, Love Point Deli, Peace of Cake, Rus­tico, Smoke­house Grill, and The Nar­rows. Each pre­pared amaz­ing spe­cial­ties to sam­ple from their places of busi­ness with ap­pro­pri­ate wines to drink with each. Red and white wines, and in one case, a “candy wine” to go along with sweets pro­vided.

Other drinks were also pro­vided for those who don’t like wine. A va­ri­ety of beers were on hand.

Larry and Toni Mitchell came from Bel Air. Toni said, “We’ve come to all 10 of these wine pair­ings over the years. It’s our fa­vorite so­cial event of the year! That’s why we come.” Ev­ery­one seemed to have a very good time.
