ES­IAC sin­gles cham­pion and player of the year Ash­ley Wag­ner grad­u­ated, as did Ma­rina Wil­son, one half of the ES­IAC’s girls’ dou­bles cham­pi­onship team. The other half of that tan­dem, se­nior Anna Granger, re­turns af­ter go­ing 11-0 in sin­gles play last year. Se­nior Miles Clem­mer was 11-1 at No. 4 last sea­son, and moves up to the sec­ond rung be­hind Granger.

Head coach Tom White has se­niors Me­gan Beane and Kate Schisler at Nos. 3 and 4, and fig­ures to give Sarah Mor­ris, Dolly Rath and Ni­cole Wachinko plenty of court time.

The boys’ team went 12-3 in its first sea­son in the Mary­land In­ter­scholas­tic Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion, but grad­u­ated last year’s No. 3, Bran­don Wass, and topseeded Wil­liam Rath, who moved to Florida.

Michael Mor­rell moves to the top spot on the lad­der af­ter go­ing 12-5 last sea­son at No. 2. Aaron Prince and Caleb Lovell will also play sin­gles, while White will use Adam Leis­ter and Max Hardesty at No. 1 dou­bles and Dy­lan Christo­pher­son and Conor Mul­laney at No. 2. Gun­ston School De­spite the grad­u­a­tion of ES­IAC player of the year David Rogers, head coach Diane John­son likes what she has seen from his boys’ team this early sea­son.

“I’m more than pleased,” said John­son of a team that could prove to be Worces­ter Prep’s chief com­pe­ti­tion in the ES­IAC. “I think we’ll do well.”

Ju­nior Tyler Judd tops the sin­gles lad­der and is fol­lowed by Sam Umidi (So.), Nat Vi­vian (Jr.), Ma­son Ru­dolfs (Fr.) and Brooks Arm­strong (So.). The Herons have Steven Goss (Jr.) and Cubby Zhou (Jr.) at No. 1 dou­bles, and Keller Evans (Fr.) and Nick Li (Jr.) at 2.

John­son thinks will will be a year of build­ing on the girls’ side, with No. 1 Elaine Jiang (Sr.) lead­ing the lad­der of Lila Inger­soll (Jr.), Rose Fan (Jr.), Hope Mur­phy (Jr.) and Tong Shen (Sr.). Grace Dai (Jr.) and Suzy Li (So.) are at No. 1 dou­bles, while Joey Zhuo (Fr.) and Vicky Zhou (So.) play at No. 2.
