Talisman Therapeutic Riding to host Derby event
GRASONVILLE — On May 6, Talisman Farm in Grasonville will again be the scene for mint juleps and broadbrimmed ladies’ hats as guests view the fastest two minutes in sports, the 144th Run for the Roses, the Kentucky Derby. The proceeds will benefit the Talisman Therapeutic Riding program.
While still held on the decades old farm, the venue this year will be the Green Arena, an enclosed area near the barn. Guests will valet their cars in front of the barn, walk past the stalls, and pick up a mint julep on their way into the arena. These Kentuckian’s-for-aDay will then enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres while they enjoy the magnificent view of the water and watch TTR’s riders demonstrate their equine skills.
The bourbon tasting tent will be conveniently placed so guests can enjoy the TTR riders and a new part of the program this year, horse soccer. Domino, a Paso Fino pony owned and trained by local artist and horseman Jonathan Shaw, will try to find a worthy opponent to engage in a game of horse soccer.
“We are so excited and honored to have Mr. Shaw and his beautiful Pasos share in the day’s event,” said Anne Joyner, founder and CEO of Talisman Therapeutic Riding Inc. “These regal animals are as talented and smart as they are beautiful.”
A display of silent auction items and the live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby will conclude the pre-dinner events. Dinner and a live auction will conclude the day’s program.
The event is May 6 beginning at 4:30 at Talisman Farm on Perry Corner Road in Grasonville. The ticket price is $90 per person and includes valet parking, mint juleps, bourbon tasting, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and silent and live auctions. Tickets are available on at www. talismantherapeuticriding. org or by calling 443-239-9400.
The Derby Day event could not be complete without a Talisman Therapeutic Riding participant.
