Two charged with stealing sunglasses
QUEENSTOWN — Two individuals were detained on April 7 after employees and a security guard at Sunglass Hut at the Queenstown Premium Outlets followed and reported to the sheriff’s office they had swapped their sunglasses with a nicer pair, a police report stated. Colin Morter, who denied stealing the sunglasses, was charged with two counts of theft less than $1,000 and theft scheme under $1,000, the report stated. The other male, who admitted to swapping his sunglasses for a more expensive pair, is a juvenile and was released to his parents, the report stated. Police said a juvenile referral was sent.
The employees stated the individuals changed their sunglasses for a pair of RayBan and Oakley valued at $440, police said.
A search of the suspects’ vehicle resulted in the recovery of additional stolen items, including a Yankee Candle scent plug and candle, as well as a men’s bathing suit, camp shirt and wallet from Tommy Bahama, police said.
The total value of recovered items was $735, police said.
