Two charged with steal­ing sun­glasses

QUEEN­STOWN — Two in­di­vid­u­als were de­tained on April 7 af­ter em­ploy­ees and a se­cu­rity guard at Sun­glass Hut at the Queen­stown Pre­mium Out­lets fol­lowed and re­ported to the sher­iff’s of­fice they had swapped their sun­glasses with a nicer pair, a po­lice re­port stated. Colin Morter, who de­nied steal­ing the sun­glasses, was charged with two counts of theft less than $1,000 and theft scheme un­der $1,000, the re­port stated. The other male, who ad­mit­ted to swap­ping his sun­glasses for a more ex­pen­sive pair, is a ju­ve­nile and was re­leased to his par­ents, the re­port stated. Po­lice said a ju­ve­nile re­fer­ral was sent.

The em­ploy­ees stated the in­di­vid­u­als changed their sun­glasses for a pair of RayBan and Oak­ley val­ued at $440, po­lice said.

A search of the sus­pects’ ve­hi­cle re­sulted in the re­cov­ery of ad­di­tional stolen items, in­clud­ing a Yan­kee Can­dle scent plug and can­dle, as well as a men’s bathing suit, camp shirt and wal­let from Tommy Ba­hama, po­lice said.

The to­tal value of re­cov­ered items was $735, po­lice said.
