* * * Con­gress­man Thomas McMillen, D-4th, has pro­posed leg­is­la­tion that will ex­tend the dead­line for the de­struc­tion of the U.S. stock­piles of chem­i­cal weapons and pro­vide more time to con­sider al­ter­na­tive op­tions to in­cin­er­a­tion at Aberdeen Prov­ing Grounds.

Un­der the leg­is­la­tion, called the In­cin­er­a­tion Al­ter­na­tive Act, the dead­line for the dis­posal of chem­i­cal weapons would be ex­tended from 1999 un­til the year 2010. * * * When Gay­lord Clark first took of­fice in De­cem­ber to fin­ish de­part­ing Town Com­mis­sioner James Or­ange’s term, he said the six-month term would help him de­cide whether he will stay in lo­cal gov­ern­ment.

Six months later, Clark said there’s too many things hap­pen­ing to step down, so he is run­ning in next Mon­day’s elec­tion. There are 224 reg­is­tered vot­ers in Sudlersville. Clark is run­ning un­op­posed.

“I’m ready for an­other three years,” he said. “I couldn’t get out now, there’s too much go­ing on in town.” *** A Ch­ester man was found guilty in District Court Mon­day of strik­ing and killing with his car a 14-year-old boy four days be­fore Christ­mas.

Judge John Clark III found Mar­cus Lovette, 19, guilty of ve­hic­u­lar man­slaugh­ter, homi­cide with a mo­tor ve­hi­cle while un­der the in­flu­ence, driv­ing while un­der the in­flu­ence, giv­ing a false state­ment to po­lice and other traf­fic vi­o­la­tions. He faces up to 11 years in prison.

Lovette was driv­ing a 1976 Mercedes Benz on Ceme­tery Road in Gra­sonville on Dec. 21 when he struck Jer­maine Burke at 8:30 p.m. Burke, who was walk­ing to­ward a dance at the Sons of Abra­ham club with a friend, who killed in­stantly.
