The channel at Kent Narrows will not be dredged in time to alleviate summer congestion, according to representatives of the U.S. Arny Corps of Engineers.
Posting public notices, testing and obtaining approval for a spoil site would take a minimum of 90 days, Corps officials informed Rep. Wayne Gilchrest, R1st; Del. C. Ronald Franks, R-Queen Anne’s; Department of Natural Resources officials; watermen; marina owners; and members of the Kent Narrows Development Foundation at Mears Point Marina Tuesday.
There was a consensus that the focus should be on the proposed channel that will not only shorten the route to the Chester River but which also forms a natural channel with the prevailing winds and will require less maintenance dredging. * * * If anyone wonders why Carol Leyon was honored
