KI Photo Club explores picture possibilities
STEVENSVILLE — The Kent Island Photo Club was formed in May 2012 by a small group of diverse people interested in exploring what they can do with their cameras.
Beginners, hobbyists with simple “point and shoot” cameras, and professional photographers from the club have been on a great many local field trips over the past six years to a variety of places with cameras in-hand, taking pictures. They have been twice to the Queen Anne’s County Fair, local wildlife sanctuaries, including Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville, along with monthly visits to a wide variety of places of interest, such as the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Wye Grist Mill, National Geographic Museum, Nature’s Best Photography Exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, College Park Aviation Museum and Airport, Ft. McHenry, Maryland Renaissance Festival, and Paul Reed Smith Guitars in Stevensville.
Many of the members of the club have also entered local photography shows with their pictures — Kent Island Federation of Art’s annual Photo Show, Queen Anne’s County Fair, Chesapeake Bay Magazine Photo Contest, I Love Queen Anne’s County Photo Contest, and many more. Most recently, the club visited Sunny Days Horse Farm, owned by Karen Mar x, in Centreville.
KI Photo Club meets twice a month at a member’s studio in historic Stevensville and once a month takes a field trip for photo opportunities. The club also hosts a great number of guest speakers, who share their photography experiences and givenexamples of how to take better and more interesting photographs.
The club has membership dues of $15 per year. For more information, contact Rebecca Placek at 410643-2817, or email her at pj email@example.com.
