Conner and QA’s march past the Vikings, into East championship
CAMBRIDGE — Eight goals by Queen Anne’s County’s Chris Conner led the Lions to an 18-9 victory over top-seeded CambridgeSouth Dorchester Monday in the Class 2A/1A East Section II boys’ lacrosse final at Viking Stadium.
The win gives No. 2 seed Queen Anne’s (10-3) a berth in Wednesday’s Class 2A/1A East Region final at Southern of Anne Arundel.
The Lions jumped ahead with five straight goals to start the game. Conner scored twice off passes from Paul Gill.
Queen Anne’s increased its lead to 3-0 when Gill scored with five minutes left in the first. William Colburn and Jacob Miller each added a goal for a 5-0 lead.
“We came out real strong, and kept our foot on the gas,” Conner said. “Cambridge is a really good team, and they beat us in the regular season. We felt if we played our game we would have a good shot today.
“We have 14 seniors, and we really rely on one another out there,” Conner added. “Paul Gill had a huge game with eight assists today. Our connections were there. Everyone played great, and we are happy to come out with the win.”
The Vikings came back with two goals from Micah Brooks. The first goal came by Brooks off rebound from a Henry Rosano shot. Brooks scored the second goal when he powered his way through two defenders and shot in front of the crease to cut the deficit to 5-2.
The Vikings would get no closer the rest of the game with Queen Anne’s going on an 8-1 run into the third quarter.
