Samuel Nicholson Carter
SUDLERSVILLE — Samuel Nicholson Carter, 81, of Sudlersville, Md., departed this life on Friday, May 19, 2017, at his residence in Safe Haven Manor.
Services were held on Thursday, May 25, at 3 p.m. at St. Daniels UM Church, 1425 Barclay Road, Barclay, MD, with a viewing one hour prior.
Condolences sent to www. henryfuneralhomepa.com. Sr. and they made their home in Rock Hall, where she raised her family. In 1957, she remarried to Ernest R. Coleman.
Mrs. Coleman worked with Rock Hall Manufacturing (The Shirt Factory), Woodfield’s Restaurant, C&P Telephone (as an operator), and did local income tax preparation for many watermen in Rock Hall. She worked at Waterman’s, The Rock Hall Inn and Coleman’s Seafood. She also taught second grade and special education with Rock Hall Elementary School, worked in the business office at Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital and with her husband’s business, and served as physical director with Upper Shore Aging until she retired at the age of 80.
In 1991, her husband Ernest, predeceased her; and on Nov. 21, 1994, she married Leroy Squares.
Mrs. Coleman was a member of Rock Hall American Legion Post #228 Ladies Auxiliary, Soroptimist Club and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed knitting, spending time in Florida, traveling and being with and around her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Thomas James Coleman Jr. of Rock Hall, Gerald John Coleman (Joyce) of Chestertown, Deborah Lynn DuPhily (John) of Chestertown, Gene Kevan Coleman (Betsy) of Arrowic, Maine and John Madison Coleman of Rock Hall; her stepchildren, Frank Coleman (Marcia) of Smyrna, Del., Gregory Coleman (Patricia) of Chestertown, Bonnie Smithson of Rock Hall and Jay N. Squares (Dana) of Chestertown; and her grandchildren, William, Tyler, Beth, Jeremy, Scott, Brandi, Michelle, Chris, Frank, Joe, Denise and Laura; along with several great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Michael.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. The grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
