SUDLERSVILLE — Sa­muel Ni­chol­son Carter, 81, of Sudlersville, Md., de­parted this life on Fri­day, May 19, 2017, at his res­i­dence in Safe Haven Manor.

Ser­vices were held on Thurs­day, May 25, at 3 p.m. at St. Daniels UM Church, 1425 Bar­clay Road, Bar­clay, MD, with a view­ing one hour prior.

Con­do­lences sent to www. hen­ry­fu­ner­al­ Sr. and they made their home in Rock Hall, where she raised her fam­ily. In 1957, she re­mar­ried to Ernest R. Cole­man.

Mrs. Cole­man worked with Rock Hall Man­u­fac­tur­ing (The Shirt Fac­tory), Wood­field’s Restau­rant, C&P Tele­phone (as an op­er­a­tor), and did lo­cal in­come tax prepa­ra­tion for many wa­ter­men in Rock Hall. She worked at Wa­ter­man’s, The Rock Hall Inn and Cole­man’s Seafood. She also taught sec­ond grade and spe­cial ed­u­ca­tion with Rock Hall Ele­men­tary School, worked in the busi­ness of­fice at Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospi­tal and with her hus­band’s busi­ness, and served as phys­i­cal direc­tor with Up­per Shore Ag­ing un­til she re­tired at the age of 80.

In 1991, her hus­band Ernest, pre­de­ceased her; and on Nov. 21, 1994, she mar­ried Leroy Squares.

Mrs. Cole­man was a mem­ber of Rock Hall Amer­i­can Le­gion Post #228 Ladies Aux­il­iary, Sorop­ti­mist Club and St. Paul’s Epis­co­pal Church. She en­joyed knit­ting, spend­ing time in Florida, trav­el­ing and be­ing with and around her fam­ily.

In ad­di­tion to her hus­band, she is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Thomas James Cole­man Jr. of Rock Hall, Ger­ald John Cole­man (Joyce) of Ch­ester­town, Deb­o­rah Lynn DuPhily (John) of Ch­ester­town, Gene Kevan Cole­man (Betsy) of Ar­rowic, Maine and John Madi­son Cole­man of Rock Hall; her stepchil­dren, Frank Cole­man (Mar­cia) of Smyrna, Del., Gre­gory Cole­man (Patricia) of Ch­ester­town, Bon­nie Smith­son of Rock Hall and Jay N. Squares (Dana) of Ch­ester­town; and her grand­chil­dren, Wil­liam, Tyler, Beth, Jeremy, Scott, Brandi, Michelle, Chris, Frank, Joe, Denise and Laura; along with sev­eral great- grand­chil­dren. She was pre­de­ceased by her grand­son, Michael.

Fu­neral ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Fri­day, May 26, at Fel­lows, Helfen­bein & New­nam Fu­neral Home, 130 Speer Road, Ch­ester­town, where rel­a­tives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thurs­day, May 25. In­ter­ment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. The grand­sons will be serv­ing as pall­bear­ers.
