KIFA photography show is open to ap­pli­cants

STEVENSVILLE — Kent Is­land Fed­er­a­tion Of Arts will hold its 21st an­nual photography show with a re­cep­tion open­ing the show Thurs­day, June 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. En­tries are be­ing ac­cepted through next Wed­nes­day, June 21.

All en­tries must be post­marked or re­ceived at KIFA no later than June 21, it is rec­om­mended due to space lim­i­ta­tions in the gal­leries, to en­ter as early as pos­si­ble. En­tries re­ceived after the limit is reached will be re­turned with en­try fee to the pho­tog­ra­pher. En­try fee for KIFA mem­bers is $20 for up to three images, non-mem­bers $25 up to three images, and youth/col­lege $2 per im­age, up to three images.

Cash awards and prizes will be given for Best in Show, First Place, Sec­ond Place and Youth “Best” in each of the two cat­e­gories by both ama­teur and pro­fes­sional. Judg­ing is based on qual­ity, orig­i­nal­ity, com­po­si­tion and over­all pre­sen­ta­tion. De­pend­ing on en­tries, cat­e­gory or di­vi­sion prizes will be con­sol­i­dated ap­pro­pri­ately.

Judg­ing will be con­ducted by Mark Hen­dricks. Hen­dricks is an award win­ning wildlife and con­ser­va­tion pho­tog­ra­pher and writer. A for­mer marine mam­mal bi­ol­o­gist and an­i­mal res­cuer, he uses his cam­era as a sto­ry­telling tool for con­ser­va­tion is­sues. Hen­dricks cur­rent work fo­cuses on the di­verse habi­tats of the Chesapeake Bay wa­ter­shed. His images ap­peared in Na­ture Pho­tog­ra­pher, The Mary­land Nat­u­ral Re­source, Na­tional Parks Travel, Africa Geo­graphic and oth­ers.

The show will run June 28 through July 29. On Thurs­day, July 13, at 6:30 p.m., Hen­dricks will hold a re­lease party for his first book, “Nat­u­ral Won­ders of As­sateague Is­land” at KIFA.
