KIFA photography show is open to applicants
STEVENSVILLE — Kent Island Federation Of Arts will hold its 21st annual photography show with a reception opening the show Thursday, June 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. Entries are being accepted through next Wednesday, June 21.
All entries must be postmarked or received at KIFA no later than June 21, it is recommended due to space limitations in the galleries, to enter as early as possible. Entries received after the limit is reached will be returned with entry fee to the photographer. Entry fee for KIFA members is $20 for up to three images, non-members $25 up to three images, and youth/college $2 per image, up to three images.
Cash awards and prizes will be given for Best in Show, First Place, Second Place and Youth “Best” in each of the two categories by both amateur and professional. Judging is based on quality, originality, composition and overall presentation. Depending on entries, category or division prizes will be consolidated appropriately.
Judging will be conducted by Mark Hendricks. Hendricks is an award winning wildlife and conservation photographer and writer. A former marine mammal biologist and animal rescuer, he uses his camera as a storytelling tool for conservation issues. Hendricks current work focuses on the diverse habitats of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. His images appeared in Nature Photographer, The Maryland Natural Resource, National Parks Travel, Africa Geographic and others.
The show will run June 28 through July 29. On Thursday, July 13, at 6:30 p.m., Hendricks will hold a release party for his first book, “Natural Wonders of Assateague Island” at KIFA.
