Bar­bara W. Bliz­zard

COR­DOVA — Bar­bara Wil­liams Bliz­zard, a life­long res­i­dent of Cor­dova, died peace­fully at her home on June 9, 2017.

Born on Sept. 4, 1940, she was the daugh­ter of the late John F. Wil­liams Sr. and Muriel C. Woot­ers Wil­liams. Bar­bara started her 42-year ca­reer with C&P Tele­phone be­gin­ning as a switch­board op­er­a­tor. She con­tin­ued in var­i­ous roles with the com­pany un­til her re­tire­ment. Most re­cently, she car­ried the role of “Pro­fes­sional Grammy,” car­ing for and sup­port­ing her eight beloved grand­chil­dren.

Bar­bara was a ded­i­cated mem­ber of Fairview Church of the Brethren, where she dis­played hand­crafted flower ar­range­ments weekly. Bar­bara was well known for uti­liz­ing wild­flow­ers and green­ery from her un­sus­pect­ing neigh­bors to cre­ate these beau­ti­ful ar­range­ments.

In her life­time, Bar­bara was known for her love of yard sales, photography, braided wool rugs, jew­elry tree art, home­made straw­berry jam, pas­sion for gar­den­ing and nee- dle­point Christ­mas or­na­ments fea­tur­ing yearly pic­tures of her grand­chil­dren.

Her lov­ing spirit is car­ried on by hus­band Howard, whom she mar­ried in 1971, and her chil­dren, Les­ley Buchanan (John), Doreen Riggs and Amy Stafford (Jeremy). Also, grand­chil­dren; Jonathan, Trent, Bai­ley, Grace, Gabriel, Rea­gan, Parker and Camp­bell, as well as her sis­ter Dar­lene Hutchi­son, and many nieces, neph­ews and fam­ily too nu­mer­ous to list but not for­got­ten.

Bar­bara is pre­de­ceased by two sib­lings, John F. Wil­liams Jr. and Karen Wil­liams.

Among spe­cial friends, she leaves be­hind Nancy Ob­itz of Ox­ford, Md. Bar­bara will be sadly missed and fondly re­mem­bered by all who were for­tu­nate enough to know her.

A fu­neral ser­vice was held on Mon­day, June 12, at the Fairview Church of the Brethren in Cor­dova, where fam­ily and friends were called from 12:30 to 2 p.m. In­ter­ment fol­lowed in the church ceme­tery.
