Ingleside Community Center plans chicken barbecue
INGLESIDE — Ingleside Community Center will hold its 56th annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, July 15.
The barbecue, usually held in June, had to be postponed this year because someone stole the copper pipes that connected the propane tanks to the building, said Andrea Forstell, community center president.
“Ironically, this barbecue is how we raise the funds to pay for our propane for the year, so discovering the theft was disappointing to say the least. Fortunately, the kind folks at Suburban Propane replaced the pipes — with something less appealing to criminals,” Forstell said.
The barbecue begins at 11 a.m., and the meal includes half a chicken, scalloped potatoes, string beans, rolls, butter and iced tea for $10. A half chicken only is $7. Dine in or carry out.
Forstell recommends people come early because the barbecue typically sells out around 2:30 p.m.
Before the barbecue begins, a yard sale and a bake sale are planned, starting at 8 a.m. The yard sale proceeds will go toward a local Girl Scout’s Silver Award Project, Forstell said. The girl is adding new games and equipment to the community center.
“So far, she has procured an air hockey table and foosball table and hopes to purchase some AV equipment with the proceeds from her yard sale,” Forstell said.
