School board OKs con­tract for new su­per­in­ten­dent

CEN­TRE­VILLE — The county school board has ap­proved a four-year con­tract for the new school su­per­in­ten­dent.

The Queen Anne’s County Board of Ed­u­ca­tion ap­proved a con­tract for Dr. An­drea M. Kane on June 30, with a start date of July 1. On June 14, the school board an­nounced the se­lec­tion of Kane as the district’s next su­per­in­ten­dent.

“I am ex­cited about the op­por­tu­nity to lead our school sys­tem to its next level of con­tin­u­ous suc­cess. A ti­tle and po­si­tion in ed­u­ca­tion are sec­on­dar y to be­ing an ad­vo­cate for all chil­dren re­gard­less at what level you serve the school sys­tem. I look for­ward to be­ing the lead ad­vo­cate for ev­ery child in our school sys­tem and pro­vid­ing sup­port and as­sis­tance to our class­room teach­ers, school ad­min­is­tra­tors, and sup­port staff while work­ing to­gether with our com­mu­nity as one co­he­sive team,” Kane said.

Kane holds a bach­e­lor’s de­gree in eco­nom­ics from Sweet Briar Col­lege in Vir­ginia, a master’s of ed­u­ca­tion de­gree in cur­ricu­lum & in­struc­tion and ad­min­is­tra­tion/su­per­vi­sion cer­ti­fi­ca­tion from Loy­ola Col­lege in Mary­land, and a Ph.D. in ed­u­ca­tional lead­er­ship from North­cen­tral Univer­sity. Most re­cently, Kane served as as­so­ciate su­per­in­ten­dent of aca­demic ser vices/chief aca­demic of­fi­cer for the Rich­mond Pub­lic School in Vir­ginia.
