Bar­bara J. Erick­son

CENTREVILLE — Bar­bara Jane Erick­son of Centreville, and for­merly of An­napo­lis, Md., died peace­fully at her home on July 4, 2017, due to com­pli­ca­tions of amy­otrophic lat­eral scle­ro­sis (Lou Gehrig’s dis­ease). She was 80.

Bar­bara was born on Nov. 15, 1936, to War­ren and Mary Kuhn on their dairy farm in Sul­li­van, Mo., where she was raised. After at­tend­ing South­west Mis­souri State Col­lege for two years, Barb moved to Mary­land to teach school at An­napo­lis Ele­men­tary. She mar­ried Ge­orge A. Erick­son Jr, (Buddy) on June 30, 1957, and left teach­ing to raise her fam­ily. Bar­bara was ac­tive with both East­port United Methodist Church in An­napo­lis, then after mov­ing to Centreville in 1977, with Centreville United Methodist Church. Her other in­ter­ests in­cluded quilt­ing and other needle­crafts.

In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, Bar­bara was pre­ceded in death by a brother, Richard Kuhn of Sul­li­van, Mo. In ad­di­tion to her hus­band of 60 years, Barb is sur­vived by her sis­ter, Vir­ginia Brady of Columbia, Pa.; and her seven chil­dren, Myreda Erick­son O’Brien of An­napo­lis, Ge­orge W. Erick­son of Centreville, Wil­liam (Peggy) Erick­son of More­head City, N.C., Mary (Paul) Woodruff of Mont­pe­lier, Va., Don­ald (Ve­neasa) Erick­son of Bour­bon, Mo., Anna Erick­son of An­napo­lis and Evelina Erick­son (Van Vo­gel) of Edge­wa­ter, Md. She is also sur­vived by four grand­chil­dren, Michael O’Brien of Den­ver, Colo., Kelly O’Brien and Pa­trick O’Brien of An­napo­lis, Kelly Erick­son of New York City; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews also sur­vive.

A memo­rial ser­vice will be held at Centreville United Methodist Church, 608 Church Hill Road, Centreville, MD 21617 on Mon­day, July 17, at 11 a.m.
