Cause of house fire un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion

BAR­CLAY — The state fire mar­shal’s of­fice is ask­ing for the pub­lic’s help as it in­ves­ti­gates a house fire Sun­day morn­ing, July 23, that re­sulted in a loss es­ti­mated to be nearly $250,000.

A pass­ing mo­torist re­ported the fire at 916 Golds­boro Road shortly be­fore 7:30 a.m., ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease from the Mary­land State Fire Mar­shal’s Of­fice.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors iden­ti­fied Robert and Jer­alin Rochester as the own­ers of the one-story home.

A to­tal of 26 fire­fight­ers an­swered the alarm and brought the blaze un­der con­trol in one hour and 50 min­utes, ac­cord­ing to the news re­lease. The Sudlersville Vol­un­teer Fire Com­pany was the pri­mary re­spond­ing agency. No in­juries were re­ported. The es­ti­mated loss is $215,000 to the struc­ture and $30,000 to its con­tents, ac­cord­ing to the news re­lease.

A smoke alarm was present, but “ac­ti­va­tion un­known,” ac­cord­ing to the news re­lease.

The fire orig­i­nated in a back bed­room. The cause has not been de­ter­mined.
