Cause of house fire under investigation
BARCLAY — The state fire marshal’s office is asking for the public’s help as it investigates a house fire Sunday morning, July 23, that resulted in a loss estimated to be nearly $250,000.
A passing motorist reported the fire at 916 Goldsboro Road shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Investigators identified Robert and Jeralin Rochester as the owners of the one-story home.
A total of 26 firefighters answered the alarm and brought the blaze under control in one hour and 50 minutes, according to the news release. The Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responding agency. No injuries were reported. The estimated loss is $215,000 to the structure and $30,000 to its contents, according to the news release.
A smoke alarm was present, but “activation unknown,” according to the news release.
The fire originated in a back bedroom. The cause has not been determined.
