Lar­ri­more tosses gem in World Se­ries opener

OCEAN CITY — Colonel Richard­son ris­ing ju­nior Jen­nifer Lar­ri­more pitched a gem Thurs­day, July 27, in the open­ing round of the USSSA 18U World Se­ries in Ocean City.

Pitch­ing for the Bay­side Breeze 18U Covey team, Lar­ri­more al­lowed just two hits in a 4-0 com­plete-game vic­tory over the NJ Mystics Gold team.

Lar­ri­more re­tired the side quickly in the top of the first in­ning. Madi­son Covey got the first out when she fielded a grounder at sec­ond and fired to Megan Ket­ter­ing at first. Short­stop Aly Hall then fielded con­sec­u­tive grounders to get the fi­nal two outs of the first in­ning.

Cen­ter fielder Kennedy War­ren led off the bot­tom of the first with a sin­gle. She ad­vanced to third on a sin­gle by Mad­di­son Led­num. Madi­son Lemon then gave the Breeze a 1-0 lead when she ripped an RBI sin­gle to plate War­ren.

The Breeze added three more runs in the sec­ond in­ning to give Lar­ri­more a 4-0 cush­ion. Covey sin­gled, Olivia Ball walked and Ket­ter­ing sin­gled to load the bases with one out. War­ren drove in the game’s sec­ond run with an RBI fielder’s choice grounder to sec­ond.

Lexxy Har­ris then ripped an RBI sin­gle to give the Breeze a 3-0 lead. Lemon added her sec­ond RBI of the game with a sin­gle to cen­ter to in­crease the lead to 4-0.
