Larrimore tosses gem in World Series opener
OCEAN CITY — Colonel Richardson rising junior Jennifer Larrimore pitched a gem Thursday, July 27, in the opening round of the USSSA 18U World Series in Ocean City.
Pitching for the Bayside Breeze 18U Covey team, Larrimore allowed just two hits in a 4-0 complete-game victory over the NJ Mystics Gold team.
Larrimore retired the side quickly in the top of the first inning. Madison Covey got the first out when she fielded a grounder at second and fired to Megan Kettering at first. Shortstop Aly Hall then fielded consecutive grounders to get the final two outs of the first inning.
Center fielder Kennedy Warren led off the bottom of the first with a single. She advanced to third on a single by Maddison Lednum. Madison Lemon then gave the Breeze a 1-0 lead when she ripped an RBI single to plate Warren.
The Breeze added three more runs in the second inning to give Larrimore a 4-0 cushion. Covey singled, Olivia Ball walked and Kettering singled to load the bases with one out. Warren drove in the game’s second run with an RBI fielder’s choice grounder to second.
Lexxy Harris then ripped an RBI single to give the Breeze a 3-0 lead. Lemon added her second RBI of the game with a single to center to increase the lead to 4-0.
