Sport­ing clays shoot aids breast cen­ter

QUEEN­STOWN — The an­nual sport­ing clays tour­na­ment that sup­ports the Clark Com­pre­hen­sive Breast Cen­ter at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Re­gional Health in Eas­ton net­ted nearly $55,000. The money will be used for “equip­ment needs,” ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease.

The Point at Pin­tail in Queen­stown hosted the event June 10.

There were 195 reg­is­tered shoot­ers for the third an­nual edi­tion of the Sport­ing Clays Clas­sic.

The high gun prize win­ners were: Cody Eshel­man, men; Chris­tine Corkell, women; Ryan Boyles and Jack­son Eshel­man, Ju­niors; and Team Cae­sar Guerini, team.

Prizes also were awarded to the top three place-fin­ish­ers in Lewis classes. They are printed here.

Lewis Class One: Ray Carey, first; Dal­ton Gal­lagher, sec­ond; and Joe Carey, third.

Lewis Class Two: Brian Fitzger­ald, first; Kevin Weems, sec­ond; and Dave Love­lady, third.

Lewis Class Three: Andy Cheezum, first; Robert Lataille, sec­ond; and Jamie Buck­ley, third.

Spon­sor­ships from in­di­vid­u­als and busi­nesses con­trib­uted to the suc­cess of the event, which raised $54,500.

Spon­sors in­cluded the Aux­il­iary of Me­mo­rial Hospi­tal at Eas­ton-UM Shore Re­gional Health, Pre­ston Au­to­mo­tive Group, Jack and Su­san Stoltz, Cae­sar Guerini USA, James Real Es­tate Ser­vices, At­trac­tion mag­a­zine, Laney Com­pa­nies, The Or­tho­pe­dic Cen­ter, The Point at Pin­tail, The Star Demo­crat, Ara­mark Food Ser­vices, Avon-Dixon Agency, Gillis Gilk­er­son, Kelly Dis­trib­u­tors, Dr. Roberta Lilly and Tide­wa­ter Anes­the­sia As­so­ci­ates.

“The Clark Com­pre­hen­sive Breast Cen­ter is very grate­ful for the spon­sor­ships the com­mu­nity part­ners and in­di­vid­u­als put forth to make this such a suc­cess­ful event,” Dr. Roberta Lilly, med­i­cal di­rec­tor of the Clark Com­pre­hen­sive Breast Cen­ter, said in a pre­pared state­ment July 12.

“Equip­ment up­grades are im­por­tant to of­fer­ing the best pa­tient care, and the funds raised through the Sport­ing Clays Clas­sic is a big help to what we want to achieve,” she said.

F. Gra­ham Lee, vice pres­i­dent for phi­lan­thropy for UM Shore Re­gional Health, thanked “all who came out and made the Sport­ing Clays Clas­sic such a suc­cess­ful and fun event.”

The date for the 2018 al­ready has been set: Satur­day, June 9.

The Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Re­gional Health Clark Com­pre­hen­sive Breast Cen­ter, pic­tured above, was re­cently reac­cred­ited by the Na­tional Ac­cred­i­ta­tion Pro­gram for Breast Cen­ters.
