Workshops and classes at RiverArts
CHESTERTOWN — RiverArts has a variety of upcoming workshops and classes in August and September as well as weekly life drawing sessions and a monthly photography club.
RiverArts Clay Studio potter Wanda Brumwell will be teaching two classes. The first is a whimsical Garden Fairy House workshop from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30 and Sept. 13 at RiverArts’ Clay Studio. The cost is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Participants will construct a house using clay slabs.
Brumwell will also be teaching a Leaf Platter Workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at RiverArts’ Clay Studio. The cost is $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
Participants will cut slabs of clay and sculpt them into leafshaped platters.
The Clay Studio is offering a two-hour Try It! class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, specifically designed beginners to play with clay on the wheel.
Instructor Marilee Schuman will provide participants with the basics of the potter’s wheel.
The class is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Walkins are welcome.
There are also Beginner and Ongoing Potter’s Wheel class starting in September.
For those interested in learning to draw, or practicing drawing from observation, Raven Bishop is offering a four week, Drawing From Observation Class, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, Aug. 10.
The class is $115 for members and $130 for nomember and will be held at RiverArts’ Education Center.
RiverArts also hosts weekly Life Drawing sessions with a live model, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, and from 2 to 5 p.m. every fourth Monday.
The cost is $15 per session or $75 for five sessions in advance. Drop-ins are welcome and cost $20 per session.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and open until 8 p.m. First Fridays.
