Pedal Pull winners announced
CENTREVILLE — The Pedal Pull drew nearly 100 competitors at the 2017 Queen Anne’s County Fair Tuesday evening, Aug. 8. Kids, divided by age, took turns seeing how far they could pedal a tractor pulling a weighted sled in the main show ring while friends and family members cheered them on.
Participants ranged in age from 4 to 15. The 8- and 9-year-olds category garnered the most entries with 24. The size of the pedal tractor and the amount of weight on the sled increased with each age group, with the 14- and 15-year-olds pulling 210 pounds.
Announcer Tommy Higgs explained how the competition worked and invited supporters to come up and cheer on their competitor. He cheered on every participant, encouraging them to go “just one more” time around with the pedals.
Winners received cash prizes: first, $15; second, $10; and third, $5. Each competitor received a piece of candy. The pull lasted almost two and a half hours.
