QACHS hosts Tour­na­ment of Bands

CEN­TRE­VILLE — Satur­day, Sept. 23 Queen Anne’s County High School hosted its an­nual Tour­na­ment of Bands. The af­ter­noon started out with the Sudlersville Mid­dle School March­ing Band per­form­ing the “Star Span­gled Ban­ner.” Band di­rec­tor Eric Wright said the af­ter­noon was filled with out­stand­ing com­pet­i­tive per­for­mances from 11 guest high school march­ing bands from Mary­land, Delaware and New Jer­sey. Af­ter the com­pet­i­tive per­for­mances were com­plete, the QACHS March­ing Lions Band gave an ex­hi­bi­tion per­for­mance of their show while still be­ing ad­ju­di­cated. Af­ter­noon per­for­mances were brought to a close by the Cen­tre­ville Mid­dle School March­ing Band as they played the theme from “Mag­nif­i­cent 7.”

The bands com­peted for a place­ment in each of their re­spec­tive Group Classes. Fol­low­ing are the re­sults for each group: Group 1-A Delaware Mil­i­tary Academy — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard Group 2-A Winslow Town­ship High School — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard

Kent Is­land High School — Sec­ond Place

Wash­ing­ton High School — Third Place Group 3-A Wi­comico High School — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard Group 1-Open Ch­e­sa­peake High School — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard Group 2-Open Hunt­ing­town High School — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard Group 3-Open Mid­dle­town High School — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard

Park­side High School — Sec­ond Place Group 4-Open Ap­po­quin­imink High School — First Place, Best Per­cus­sion, Best Color Guard

Cae­sar Rod­ney High School — Sec­ond Place

Many thanks are owed to the par­ents of the band stu­dents for mak­ing the day a great suc­cess, said Wright. The fol­low­ing week the QACHS March­ing Lions Band trav­eled to Elk­ton to com­pete in Elk­ton High’s tour­na­ment of bands.
