CH­ESTER­TOWN — Bette Lar­ri­more Smith of Ch­ester­town died on Sun­day, Oct. 8, 2017, at her home. She was 89.

Mrs. Smith was born on May 7, 1928, the daugh­ter of the late Wil­liam and Mary Plum­mer Lar­ri­more. She was a life­time res­i­dent of Kent and Queen Anne’s coun­ties. She grad­u­ated from Church Hill High School in 1945 and at­tended Bea­com Col­lege.

Her early em­ploy­ment was with the Fed­eral Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tion in Wash­ing­ton, D.C. Dur­ing her hus­band’s tour of duty with the Air Force, she fol­lowed him through­out the coun­try to var­i­ous mil­i­tary as­sign­ments.

Upon re­turn­ing home, af­ter the Korean War, she and her hus­band lived in Church Hill. She was em­ployed as the sec­re­tary to Dr. Harry C. Rhodes, who was su­per­in­ten­dent of the Queen Anne’s County school sys­tem. Upon the birth of their first child, she de­voted her time to rais­ing her chil­dren.

She later re­turned to work in Ch­ester­town with the David Haacke Ac­count­ing Firm and later with the Ch­ester­town Bank of Mary­land.

Bette ded­i­cated her life to her fam­ily. Never was she hap­pier than when she was with them. She was also an ac­com­plished bridge player and en­joyed meet­ing with her friends at the bridge ta­ble.

Bette was a mem­ber of Em­manuel Epis­co­pal Church, where she served as a Sun­day school teacher and a long­time mem­ber of the al­tar guild. She was also a mem­ber of the Ch­ester River Yacht & Countr y Club. She served for a num­ber of years on the Kent Youth Ad­vi­sory Board.

Mrs. Smith is sur­vived by her hus­band of 66 years, Rogers Smith; a son, Mark Smith; a daugh­ter, Lisa Falls (Bill); five grand­chil­dren, Kris­ten Smith, Kelsey Smith, Kyle Lind­strom, Corey Lind­strom and Katie Falls; a great-grand­child, Kylie Purse; and a brother, Wil­liam Lar­ri­more Jr. (Betty).

A memo­rial ser­vice will be held at 1:30 p.m. Satur­day, Oct. 14, at Em­manuel Epis­co­pal Church in Ch­ester­town.
