Gra­sonville VFD teaches stu­dents fire safety

GRA­SONVILLE — The Gra­sonville Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment came out to Gra­sonville El­e­men­tary School on Mon­day, Oct. 16, to dis­cuss fire safety and the du­ties of fire­fight­ers.

Stu­dents got an up close view of the depart­ment’s fire trucks, equip­ment and gear. They also taught the stu­dents how to “stop, drop and roll” if their clothes were ever on fire.

Vol­un­teer fire­fight­ers par­tic­i­pat­ing in­cluded Chris Mar­tel, Troy Til­gh­man, Wayne Bossert, Matt For­rest, Matt Coursey, Chris Ba­corn and Steve McCombs.

The fire depart­ment comes out to the el­e­men­tary school ev­ery year, and stu­dents look for­ward to meet­ing their lo­cal he­roes and learn­ing about what it takes to be a fire­fighter.
