Chaos capture Tri-Area crown
The Kent Island Chaos 14-and-under girls’ softball team captured the Tri-Area Softball League championship, June 14, against the Kent County Crushers, prevailing in an exciting, 15-12 final at Route 18 Park in Centreville.
Lindsay Cavey picked up the win for Kent Island, taking over for Jaelyn Burch in the fourth inning and striking out nine, including the side in the bottom of the seventh to lock down the title. Burch started and pitched three innings, allowing only three runs, and also went 2-for-4 at the dish, including a bases-clearing triple in the fourth that made it 8-4, Chaos.
Jordan Proctor batted 2-for-4 and scored two runs, while Madison Kintop drove in a run on two hits. Caitey Patterson was solid at first base with 10 putouts, and catcher Maddie Eskew was behind the dish the entire game and performed well.
Kent Island finished the season with a 10-5 mark, including 2-2 against Kent County. The Crushers, the regular-season champions in the league, went 12-2, both losses coming against the Chaos.
