Chaos cap­ture Tri-Area crown

The Kent Is­land Chaos 14-and-un­der girls’ softball team cap­tured the Tri-Area Softball League cham­pi­onship, June 14, against the Kent County Crushers, pre­vail­ing in an ex­cit­ing, 15-12 fi­nal at Route 18 Park in Cen­tre­ville.

Lind­say Cavey picked up the win for Kent Is­land, tak­ing over for Jae­lyn Burch in the fourth in­ning and strik­ing out nine, in­clud­ing the side in the bot­tom of the sev­enth to lock down the ti­tle. Burch started and pitched three in­nings, al­low­ing only three runs, and also went 2-for-4 at the dish, in­clud­ing a bases-clear­ing triple in the fourth that made it 8-4, Chaos.

Jor­dan Proc­tor bat­ted 2-for-4 and scored two runs, while Madi­son Kin­top drove in a run on two hits. Caitey Pat­ter­son was solid at first base with 10 putouts, and catcher Mad­die Eskew was be­hind the dish the en­tire game and per­formed well.

Kent Is­land fin­ished the sea­son with a 10-5 mark, in­clud­ing 2-2 against Kent County. The Crushers, the reg­u­lar-sea­son cham­pi­ons in the league, went 12-2, both losses com­ing against the Chaos.
