Al­though the GoFundMe cam­paign helped with a por­tion of the costs, Bayo Ji­nadu hasn’t quite reached the $9,000 he needs to cover ev­ery­thing. He also had to ap­ply for a “af­fi­davits of sup­port,” claim­ing le­gal re­spon­si­bil­ity for his chil­dren, which cost him an ad­di­tional $480, and there’s still the plane tick­ets for his chil­dren, which cost up to $2,000 each. But he’s not dis­cour­aged.

“I know that I’ll be reunited with them soon,” Ji­nadu said.

De­spite the fi­nan­cial set­back, he and his chil­dren re­main grate­ful to the peo­ple who do­nated to bring them one step closer to be­ing reunited. Elvira Ji­nadu, who said she’ll miss her friends and other fam­ily mem­bers, couldn’t be more thank­ful for the op­por­tu­nity.

“I want to thank them all so much for help­ing us come to Amer­ica,” she said. “This is such a dream come true. I re­ally can’t be­lieve it’s hap­pen­ing.”
