The final frontier
CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Discovery” has cast original “Rent” star Anthony Rapp as Lieutenant Stamets, a “fungus expert and Starfleet science officer” who happens to be gay, according to Vulture. The powers that be behind the upcoming series promised in August that it would have a gay character, and it seems they’re making good on that. Earlier this year, “Star Trek Beyond” depicted John Cho’s version of the character Sulu as being gay, though original Sulu actor George Takei (who is gay IRL) insisted that his version was not. Now we wait for the appalled Tweetstorms of angry old-school Trekkies.
