Food and agri­cul­ture ex­perts pre­dicted there would be new food safety so­lu­tions for con­sumers and pro­duc­ers in 2016. The USDA in­tro­duced new fea­tures for its free FoodKeeper app—which helps con­sumers bet­ter store food and re­duce waste—such as push no­ti­fi­ca­tions for when food might go bad.

Chipo­tle, which cap­tured na­tional at­ten­tion in late 2015 fol­low­ing a se­ries of food safety out­breaks, an­nounced in Fe­bru­ary that it would spend up to $10 mil­lion to help its smaller sup­pli­ers pro­duce safer meat and veg­eta­bles.
