Girl hurt in fall off car­ni­val ride

A girl was taken to the hos­pi­tal with non­life- threat­en­ing in­juries Fri­day af­ter she fell from a Fer­ris wheel at a car­ni­val on Mid­loth­ian Turn­pike, ac­cord­ing to the Rich­mond Fire Depart­ment.

Fire­fight­ers re­ceived a call for a per­son down at 9: 33 p. m. and ar­rived to find a young girl, ap­prox­i­mately 10 years old, who had fallen from the Fer­ris wheel, said Bat­tal­ion Chief Bai­ley Martin with the city’s fire depart­ment.

The girl had fallen about 10 feet, Martin said. The car­ni­val is be­ing held at 6807 Mid­loth­ian Turn­pike in the park­ing lot of the old Kmart near the Chip­pen­ham Park­way, he said.

The ride was shut down, and emer­gency work­ers were able to get ev­ery­one else off the ride safely, Martin said.

A Rich­mond city in­spec­tor was called to in­ves­ti­gate the ride and to de­ter­mine what caused the girl to fall, he said. sgor­man@times­dis­
