State will not stock shad in James River af­ter this year

ROANOKE— State of­fi­cials say they are giv­ing up on stock­ing shad pop­u­la­tion in the James River.

This year will be the fi­nal year of­fi­cials plan to stock the fish, The Roanoke Times re­ported. Ef­forts at restor­ing the shad pop­u­la­tion have yielded lit­tle suc­cess in 25 years as the fish pop­u­la­tion re­mains at his­toric lows.
