Police seek suspects in Jackson Ward shooting
Richmond police are searching for a group of men considered dangerous and connected to a Tuesday night shooting in Jackson Ward that left a man with life-threatening injuries.
Police were called to the 900 block of North 1st Street, not far from Shockoe Hill Cemetery, about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting, said Richmond police spokeswoman Koury Wilson.
A witness told police that he and the victim were walking on First Street when they passed four men, none of whom the witness said he knew. As the men passed, one of them turned and shot the victim, the witness said.
When police arrived at the scene, the victim was lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound, Wilson said.
The assailants then fled toward Gilpin Court, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was battling life-threatening injuries Thursday evening.
No suspect information was available.
“We need the assistance of the community and anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious,” Major Crimes Sgt. Claude Picard said in a statement.
Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Margaret Smith at (804) 646-0744 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
