Po­lice seek sus­pects in Jack­son Ward shoot­ing

Richmond po­lice are search­ing for a group of men con­sid­ered dan­ger­ous and con­nected to a Tues­day night shoot­ing in Jack­son Ward that left a man with life-threat­en­ing in­juries.

Po­lice were called to the 900 block of North 1st Street, not far from Shockoe Hill Ceme­tery, about 10:30 p.m. Tues­day for a re­port of a shoot­ing, said Richmond po­lice spokes­woman Koury Wil­son.

A wit­ness told po­lice that he and the vic­tim were walk­ing on First Street when they passed four men, none of whom the wit­ness said he knew. As the men passed, one of them turned and shot the vic­tim, the wit­ness said.

When po­lice ar­rived at the scene, the vic­tim was ly­ing in the street suf­fer­ing from a gun­shot wound, Wil­son said.

The as­sailants then fled to­ward Gilpin Court, po­lice said.

The vic­tim was taken to a hos­pi­tal, where he was bat­tling life-threat­en­ing in­juries Thurs­day even­ing.

No sus­pect in­for­ma­tion was avail­able.

“We need the as­sis­tance of the com­mu­nity and any­one who may have wit­nessed some­thing sus­pi­cious,” Ma­jor Crimes Sgt. Claude Pi­card said in a state­ment.
