Portsmouth city worker killed while on the job
Police in Portsmouth say a longtime city worker whose body was found behind a home was on the job when he was killed.
Officers discovered the body of Willie V. Allen, 56, on Tuesday morning after receiving a call about a suspicious situation near an Interstate 264 offramp, Portsmouth police said.
Mayor John Rowe said Allen, who was a pump station mechanic, was working at a station when he was killed. Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.
Allen had been an employee with the city of Portsmouth for more than 30 years.
The cause of death has not been released, and officials have not given any suspect information or a motive.
