Elderly woman last seen in N.Va. found safe in W.Va.
An 80-year-old Pennsylvania woman with dementia who was reported missing in Northern Virginia has been found safe in West Virginia, police said Thursday.
Catherine B. Hemlepp, who was last seen Tuesday in Fairfax County, was found about 9:45 a.m. Thursday at a Best Western motel in Bridgeport, W.Va., Winchester police said.
Hemlepp and her husband, who were driving from Pennsylvania to South Carolina in two vehicles, became separated about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Fairfax County.
Early Wednesday, Hemlepp phoned her husband and told him that she was staying at the Shenandoah Motel in Winchester. However, there is no motel by that name in Winchester or Frederick County, police said.
Officers searched Winchester-area hotels but did not find Hemlepp, police said.
She was discovered in West Virginia after she made a purchase with a credit card, police said.
Officers were traveling to West Virginia to bring her to Winchester to be reunited with her husband, police said.
