Armentrout gets 1,000 career point

Richmond Times-Dispatch - - SPORTS -

Atlee senior Alyse Armentrout scored her 1,000th career point in a game against Varina on Jan. 3.

Armentrout had 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks against the Blue Devils.

She’s also on the cusp of averaging a tripledouble. She averages 19 points, 16 rebounds and 8 blocks a game.

“(She has had) amazing growth from a middle school point guard to a high school center/forward. Alyse stepped up to become the team leader as a junior and hasn’t looked back since,” said Atlee coach Michael Rawlings.

“She shoots with either hand and is respectfully known as the inspector because her arms seem to extend to great lengths to block shots or pluck rebounds seemingly well away from her reach.”

The Monacan girls basketball team remains ranked No. 5 on MaxPreps’ national rankings. Paul VI of Fairfax continues to hold the No. 1 ranking.
