Mort­gage buyer Fred­die Mac says the 30-year fixed mort­gage rate was 3.78 per­cent, which is slightly above last year’s av­er­age of 3.65 per­cent. The 15-year­mort­gage stayed 3.08 per­cent.

Higher gas and hous­ing costs boosted U.S. con­sumer prices 0.4 per­cent in Au­gust, the most in seven months. The in­crease sug­gests in­fla­tion could be pick­ing up, but the fig­ures may have been dis­torted by Hur­ri­cane Har­vey. Con­sumer prices climbed 1.9 per­cent last month com­pared with a year ear­lier, the La­bor Department said Thurs­day, up from an an­nual gain of 1.7 per­cent in Au­gust and the sec­ond straight in­crease. Ex­clud­ing volatile en­ergy and food costs, prices rose 0.2 per­cent in Au­gust and 1.7 per­cent from a year ear­lier.

Best Buy and Of­fice De­pot said they no longer will sell an­tivirus soft­ware by Kasper­sky Labs, a Rus­sian com­pany that the U.S. gov­ern­ment banned fed­eral agen­cies from us­ing. The U.S. Department of Home­land Se­cu­rity cited con­cerns about pos­si­ble ties be­tween un­named Kasper­sky of­fi­cials and the Krem­lin and Rus­sian in­tel­li­gence ser­vices.

Google faces a new law­suit ac­cus­ing it of gen­der-based pay dis­crim­i­na­tion. A lawyer rep­re­sent­ing three women who for­merly worked at Google is seek­ing class ac­tion sta­tus for the suit. It fol­lows a fed­eral la­bor in­ves­ti­ga­tion that made pre­lim­i­nary find­ings of sys­temic pay dis­crim­i­na­tion at Google’s head­quar­ters in Cal­i­for­nia.
