3-year- old and 2 women from N.C. are killed in crash on I-95 that also in­jured four chil­dren

A 3-year-old and two women from North Carolina were killed Thurs­day and four chil­dren were in­jured when their mini­van crashed on In­ter­state 95 in Sus­sex County.

A 2009 Dodge Car­a­van was trav­el­ing south­bound on I-95 near mile marker 18 when it ran off the road and struck a tree head-on about 6 a.m., ac­cord­ing to Vir­ginia State Po­lice.

The other chil­dren in the ve­hi­cle — a 3-yearold, an 8-year-old and two 12-year-olds — were taken to VCU Med­i­cal Cen­ter.

One of the 12-yearolds, a boy, suf­fered lifethreat­en­ing in­juries and was flown to the hos­pi­tal. The other chil­dren had in­juries that were not life-threat­en­ing.

Olga Mon­dragon Bri­ones, 48, was driv­ing. She was killed, along with El­iz­a­beth Sanchez, 32, and Nel­son Flores, 3. All died upon im­pact, state po­lice said.

The state po­lice ac­ci­dent re­con­struc­tion team was called to the scene to as­sist in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, which is on­go­ing.
