78, of Rich­mond, passed away on Mon­day, Septem­ber 11, 2017, af­ter a long bat­tle with Alzheimer’s dis­ease. She is sur­vived by her hus­band, Edward Spede; daugh­ter, Jennifer Spede (Robert Pel­lerin); son, Joseph Spede (Leah); grand­daugh­ter, Sophia Spede; and brother, Steve Snede­gar (Kathy). Suzie was born and raised in Roanoke, Va. and at­tended Thomas Jef­fer­son H.S. Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from Madi­son Col­lege, she taught in Rich­mond and Roanoke, went on to re­ceive her masters in ro­mance lan­guages at UNCChapel Hill and then taught at the Univer­sity of Georgia. Suzie loved horse­back rid­ing, ten­nis, all things Span­ish and her Roanoke moun­tains. Spe­cial thanks are ex­tended to the Easter Fam­ily of Amelia for their kind care of Suzie over the re­cent years. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends Satur­day, Septem­ber 16, be­tween 2 and 4 p.m. at the Bliley’s- Cen­tral 3801 Au­gusta Ave. Rich­mond, Va. 23230. In lieu of flow­ers, memo­rial do­na­tions may be made to the Alzheimer’s As­so­ci­a­tion.
