Brookland District needs Bob Witte’s leadership

EDITOR, TIMES-DISPATCH:

Recently in your newspaper, I saw a picture of Gov. Terry McAuliffe announcing the decision by Facebook to open a data center in Henrico. Good for Henrico and good for Virginia. However, the credit for this lies not with the governor’s office, or in Richmond at all.

Our conservative-led Henrico Board of Supervisors had its eyes on this deal for a while. Last spring the board lowered an equipment tax that sweetened the pot and helped seal the deal. In addition, county employees at many levels worked quietly and diligently for months preparing the way for this decision.

Henrico landed this deal while not paying a single cent of taxpayer money to Facebook. We need to continue this type of sound leadership that makes Henrico such a well-run county as well as a great place to live and work. So, it is important that we elect Bob Witte to the Board of Supervisors representing the Brookland District. He will continue this forward-thinking leadership. Witte has served on the planning commission for years. Unlike his opponent, he is eminently qualified for this job and will start leading from day one. DANA SMITH. GLEN ALLEN.
