BUCHANAN, Capi­tola "Cappy" Hud­gins,

died on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 12, 2017, in Mid­loth­ian, Va.

She was born in Nor­folk, Va. on Jan­uary 30, 1921, to Letcher A. and Sav­ina M. Hud­gins and she lived in Nor­folk un­til 1998, when she and her hus­band, Dr. Gor­don Squires Buchanan, moved to At­lantic Shores Re­tire­ment Com­mu­nity in Vir­ginia Beach. She had been liv­ing at Spring Ar­bor of Salisbury in Mid­loth­ian since 2010.

Sur­vivors in­clude her daugh­ter, Nancy B. Perry and son-in-law, Dr. Sa­muel E. Perry Jr., who re­side in Mid­loth­ian, Va.; her grand­son, Brad­ford C. Perry and his wife, Tara Fitz­Patrick, who re­side in Rich­mond; and her sis­ter-in­law, Mar­garet Stu­art Hud­gins, who re­sides in Vir­ginia Beach. Cappy is also sur­vived by two great grand­chil­dren, Oliver Perry and Felix Perry. Cappy’s brother, Letcher A. Hud­gins Jr., died in 2008. She is also sur­vived by two neph­ews, Letcher A. Hud­gins III and his wife, Pa­tri­cia Her­ron, and Jef­frey S. Hud­gins and his wife, Pat Hud­gins.

The fam­ily wishes to thank the staff and won­der­ful care­givers at Spring Ar­bor of Salisbury and the Mem­ory Cot­tage at Spring Ar­bor, as well as the staff of At Home Care Hospice. Ad­di­tional thanks go to Dr. William Kevin Wat­ter­son and his nurse, Mary Cather­ine, for tak­ing care of Cappy’s med­i­cal needs.

A grave­side ser­vice will be held at For­est Lawn Ceme­tery in Nor­folk on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 14, 2017, at 1 p.m. Memo­rial gifts can be made to a char­ity of choice or to Roys­ter Memo­rial Pres­by­te­rian Church, 6901 New­port Ave., Nor­folk, Va. 23505.
