TORRENCE, Nancy Marilyn MacDougall

Richmond Times-Dispatch - - REMEMBERING -

,of Midlothian, born July 22, 1924, in Pontiac, Mich., departed this life on June 11, 2018, after a full and happy life. She will rejoin her beloved husband of 43 years, Jess, who passed away in 1987. Nancy and Jess traveled extensively before he died, visiting such beautiful places as Hawaii and Switzerland. Nancy honored Jess’s service in the Navy, attending reunions for many years after his death. She was a past member of First Baptist Church, D.A.R., Maybeury and Westbury Garden Clubs, Bon Air Women’s Club and International Society of Poets. Nancy had a fulfilling 25-year career in interior design, including writing a monthly column for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In retirement, Nancy’s talent for writing inspired her to publish two books of poetry, winning various awards. Nancy had a passion for flower gardening, keeping detailed journals and beautiful scrapbooks of all her plants. Nancy also enjoyed sewing custom-designed stuffed animals to give as gifts to family and friends. In recent years, Nancy spent her time enjoying visits with her son, Thomas A. Torrence (Janet); and special lunches and outings with her daughter, Patti Jo Knight (Ed). Nancy was a true lady in every sense of the word; dainty, softspoken, classy and simply beautiful. Her silly sense of humor made her a lot of fun to be with. She was an inspiration, and loved by everyone she met. Nancy was preceded in death by her three siblings; sister, Marge Krive and brothers, Hugh and Gordon MacDougall, all of Michigan. In addition to her daughter and son; she is survived by five grandchildren, Todd, Kristen and Brandon Torrence of Midlothian, Shannon Caprio of Atlanta, Ga., Jill Quinlan of Roanoke, Va.; and six greatgrandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care and compassion Nancy received from Heartland Hospice during her last few months, and a special "thank you" to Maddie Sullivan who was exceptionally supportive, kind and loving. Nancy will be laid to rest next to Jess. Interment will be private.
