Cow­boys, Martin reach six-year ex­ten­sion

Guard Zach Martin and the Dal­las Cow­boys agreed to a six-year con­tract ex­ten­sion worth $84 mil­lion with $40 mil­lion guar­an­teed, NFL.com re­ported Wed­nes­day.

With the con­tract av­er­ag­ing $14 mil­lion per year, Martin be­came the sec­ond-high­est-paid of­fen­sive line­man be­hind New York Giants tackle Nate Solder, whose av­er­age salary is $15.5 mil­lion.

Martin was set to en­ter the fi­nal year of his con­tract with a base salary of $9.3 mil­lion.

Since en­ter­ing the league as a first-round pick in 2014 with Dal­las, Martin has been named to four straight Pro Bowls. He was se­lected first-team All-Pro twice.

San Fran­cisco 49ers wide re­ceiver Mar­quise Good­win has won the 2018 Ge­orge Halas Award from the Pro­fes­sional Football Writ­ers of Amer­ica. The Halas Award is given to a NFL player, coach or staff mem­ber who over­comes the most ad­ver­sity to suc­ceed. Good­win had a ca­reer year on the field while deal­ing with fam­ily tragedies dur­ing the 2017 sea­son.
