Mary­land of­fen­sive line­man dies

Jor­dan McNair, a Univer­sity of Mary­land player hos­pi­tal­ized after an or­ga­nized team work­out two weeks ago, has died.

Da­mon Evans, Mary­land’s ex­ec­u­tive ath­let­ics direc­tor, said Mr. McNair was hos­pi­tal­ized on May 29 and died Wed­nes­day.

Mr. McNair was a 6-foot-4, 325-pound of­fen­sive line­man pre­par­ing for his sopho­more sea­son. A grad­u­ate of Mc­Donogh (Md.) High School, Mr. McNair played one game last sea­son.

Mis­sis­sippi State wide re­ceiver Regi­nald Todd is free on bond after his ar­rest on an al­leged sim­ple as­sault charge. The Clar­ion Ledger re­ported the 21-year-old was ar­rested Tues­day and pro­cessed into the Ok­tibbeha County jail. De­tails of what sparked the charge and in­for­ma­tion on his bond were not im­me­di­ately avail­able. It was un­known if he’s rep­re­sented by an at­tor­ney. Todd is en­ter­ing his sopho­more sea­son.

For­mer Illi­nois quar­ter­back Jeff Ge­orge Jr. said he will trans­fer to Michi­gan as a grad­u­ate trans­fer. Ge­orge, the son of for­mer Illini great and NFL quar­ter­back Jeff Ge­orge, strug­gled with in­ef­fec­tive pass­ing dur­ing his two sea­sons in Cham­paign. He played in 11 games the last two sea­sons with nine starts and com­pleted only 48 per­cent of his passes for 1,743 yards with 11 touch­downs and 15 in­ter­cep­tions. Ge­orge is likely to join the Wolver­ines in a walk-on role.
