BRADLEY, Melvin Eugene,
85, of Richmond, Va., was called home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2018. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Williams; and stepfather, Richard "Sonny" Williams. Melvin was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara M. Bradley; daughters, Sherry Coleman (Gary) and Paula Bradley (Randy); grandchildren, Candice Skeens and Justin Chavis; greatgrandchildren, Grant Skeens and Kynslee Chavis. Melvin is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Hall, Katholeen Beck, Margaret Rivenbark; brother, David Bradley; and his devoted "furry" companion, Sassy; many nieces and nephews and numerous extended family and friends. A special thank you to devoted friends, Dee Reed and Bubba Carr. Melvin was a NASCAR veteran and started racing in 1954 in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. He had a short stent in the Grand National Series in 1962. "Mel" had many victories in his career. He gained respect from the other drivers and was very thankful for his many friends during his career, until he retired from racing in 1976. Melvin was a dedicated employee of Southside Glass Shop/ Binswanger Glass Co. of 50 years, when he retired in 1998. Melvin continued to stay busy delivering cars and trucks for Sheehy Ford and Colonial Ford Truck until 2016. Melvin was a member of the ACCA Shriners, Masonic Lodge Joppa # 40, Scottish Rite and the Virginia Street Rod Association. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, Va. 23234. Melvin’s funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 12, at the Morrissett Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park.
