DAW­SON, Wil­liam Byrd "Bill,"

88, of Rich­mond, Vir­ginia, passed peace­fully at home to be with the Lord on Novem­ber 5, 2018. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Vin­cent D. and Lil­lie Irene Hughes Daw­son; and grand­son, Mor­gan Byrd Daw­son. He is sur­vived by his de­voted wife of 64 years, Shirley Mae Wil­liams Daw­son; son, Rev. Robert Byrd Daw­son; daugh­ter, Kim­berly Mae Daw­son Boyer (John); daugh­ter-in­law, Janet M. Daw­son; seven grand­chil­dren and 14 great-grand­chil­dren. Born in 1930 in his beloved North­ern Neck in West­more­land County, Vir­ginia, his ed­u­ca­tional jour­ney in­cluded Reedville High School, Class of ’46, Vir­ginia Mil­i­tary In­sti­tute, Class of ’51 and Strayer Busi­ness Col­lege, Wash­ing­ton, D.C. Bill served Hen­rico County’s De­part­ment of Pub­lic Works for more than 42 years and was among the founders of the County’s Fed­eral Credit Union, of which he was a long­time board mem­ber and chair­man. The United States Coast Guard was a pas­sion of Bill’s, to which he gave 36 years, and re­cently ob­served his 62nd year as a Ma­son, Manch­ester Lodge No. 14. He cher­ished the love and never-end­ing sup­port of his church fam­ily, Sec­ond Bap­tist Church, River Road, where he served as a Dea­con and a mem­ber of his beloved Lewis Booker Sun­day School Class. The fam­ily would like to thank the amaz­ing ser­vices of Bon Se­cours Hos­pice and es­pe­cially Bill’s care­givers, Kelly, Su­san, Michelle, Aimee, Inez, Amor and Tri­cia, for their pro­fes­sional, ded­i­cated, com­pas­sion­ate and sen­si­tive care dur­ing the past three-and-a-half years. A ser­vice of cel­e­bra­tion will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day, at Sec­ond Bap­tist Church, 9614 River Road, fol­lowed by a re­cep­tion. In­ter­ment will be pri­vate.
