DAWSON, William Byrd "Bill,"
88, of Richmond, Virginia, passed peacefully at home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent D. and Lillie Irene Hughes Dawson; and grandson, Morgan Byrd Dawson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Shirley Mae Williams Dawson; son, Rev. Robert Byrd Dawson; daughter, Kimberly Mae Dawson Boyer (John); daughter-inlaw, Janet M. Dawson; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Born in 1930 in his beloved Northern Neck in Westmoreland County, Virginia, his educational journey included Reedville High School, Class of ’46, Virginia Military Institute, Class of ’51 and Strayer Business College, Washington, D.C. Bill served Henrico County’s Department of Public Works for more than 42 years and was among the founders of the County’s Federal Credit Union, of which he was a longtime board member and chairman. The United States Coast Guard was a passion of Bill’s, to which he gave 36 years, and recently observed his 62nd year as a Mason, Manchester Lodge No. 14. He cherished the love and never-ending support of his church family, Second Baptist Church, River Road, where he served as a Deacon and a member of his beloved Lewis Booker Sunday School Class. The family would like to thank the amazing services of Bon Secours Hospice and especially Bill’s caregivers, Kelly, Susan, Michelle, Aimee, Inez, Amor and Tricia, for their professional, dedicated, compassionate and sensitive care during the past three-and-a-half years. A service of celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road, followed by a reception. Interment will be private.
