88, of Tampa, passed away on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 1, 2018. James was born on July 13, 1930, in Sus­sex, Va. He earned his bach­e­lor’s de­gree in ed­u­ca­tion from the Uni­ver­sity of Rich­mond and com­pleted his grad­u­ate stud­ies at the Uni­ver­sity of Vir­ginia. A pas­sion­ate ed­u­ca­tor, James served four decades in Vir­ginia’s school sys­tem, hold­ing such po­si­tions as teacher, prin­ci­pal and As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent through­out his ca­reer. Upon re­tire­ment, he fur­ther pur­sued his pas­sion of col­lect­ing an­tiques, open­ing an an­tique shop in Reedsville, N.C. James was a peo­ple per­son and loved all as­pects of life, es­pe­cially his fam­ily. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Anselum and Feli­cia Savedge; and sib­lings, Joyce and Tiny. He is sur­vived by his sis­ter, Anne; sis­ter-in-law, Dorothy; three chil­dren, Su­san (Murph), Ricky (Margie) and Todd (Lisa); 10 grand­chil­dren, nine great-grand­chil­dren and many lov­ing nieces and neph­ews. His fam­ily will cel­e­brate the mem­ory and life of James by hold­ing a pri­vate cer­e­mony in his honor.
