Taysha McGuire contributed with a goal and an assist. Hailey Sims, Taylor McMahon and Savannah Hudson scored one each during the Lancers’ five-goal barrage in the second half. Malia Allen and Kylie Mendez each played a half at goal and combined for seven saves.
Sierra 4, Oakdale 1 OAKDALE — Oakdale (2-6-2, 6-8-2) held the lead for the majority of the match while putting multiple defenders on Sierra standout’s Yasmin Ballew and Jadyn Shinn.
That was freshman winger Tiana Cello’s cue to shine. After moving from the right side to the left, Cello came through for the tying and go-ahead goals in the 63rd and 73rd minutes. Ballew and Shinn did not come up empty-handed. Shinn assisted Cello’s second goal and scored one of her own in the 77th minute with the pass coming from Ballew.
Then in the final minute, Jasmine Loaiza, who leads Sierra (10-0-0, 19-0-1) with 14 assists, scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick that was awarded following a handball in the box.
“This was a game we had to battle all the way through,” Sierra coach Manuel Pires said. “We had opportunities to score, but couldn’t find the back of the net. The second half was a challenge for us to step up. When we got that first goal it opened the door.” Manteca 3, Kimball 0 Kaley Miller and Kaitlynn Funsch did the damage for second-place Manteca (8-11, 16-4-1), which heads to Sierra for a big match Thursday.
Miller knocked in both of the Buffaloes’ first-half goals with the Funsch on the assists. Roles were reversed for the insurance goal in the second half.
Aimee Meier recorded five goalie saves, while Manteca attempted 20 shots.
Mariposa 2, Ripon Christian 1 MARIPOSA — After going 58 straight games without a loss in Southern Athletic League play, the Knights (7-2-1, 10-7-1) have now dropped two in a row to further tighten a four-team race for championship.
Brittany Bloemhof put Ripon Christian ahead in the 20th minute with a wellplaced shot taken from the top of the penalty box. Mariposa (7-2-1, 9-3-1) answered in the 38th and 68th minutes.
Varsity boys Ripon Christian 1, Mariposa 0 MARIPOSA — Ripon Christian (1-7-1, 4-13-2) notched its first league win of the season thanks to Matthijs Moret’s goal set up by a pass from Nathan Litfin. Johnny Van Vliet got the shutout at goal.
Frosh-soph East Union 16, Lathrop 0 LATHROP — Jasmine Mast, Selena Medeiros, Melanie Gonzalez and Kailey Soulier spearheaded the onslaught with two goals apiece.
Also finding the net were Narendra Covarrubias, Ileana Carrillo, Jennifer Lopez, Tiffany Liebelt, Lucy Diaz, Jasmine Ruiz, Katelin Bean and Vanessa Markham.
