The Lady Bruin varsity volleyball squad was back to a two game schedule last week, but had tough TransValley League matches, hosting Hilmar on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and traveling to Escalon on Thursday last week.
Facing a much taller, powerful Lady Yellowjackets team at home, Riverbank posted scores of 6-25, 5-25 and 1-25 in a losing threegame match.
On Thursday, they took on the Lady Cougars at the EHS court, also losing in a three straight match. After falling 7-25 and 6-25 to go down 2-0, Riverbank battled and hung tough in the third game but ultimately fell to the host team by a 14-25 final.
The JV girls also faced tough teams, going down 14-25 and 19-25 against Hilmar last Tuesday with close losses Thursday at Escalon. They kept both games close with the JV Lady Cougars, battling nearly point for point with the host squad, falling 23-25 in the first and then 24-26 in the second contest to lose by a 2-0 final.
This week volleyball was scheduled at home yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 10 with the Lady Mustangs of Mountain House coming to town. They’ll travel to Hughson on Thursday, Oct. 12 and have a league bye next Tuesday.
Riverbank’s varsity football team was on the road this past week traveling to Stockton to take on Brookside Christian High School on Saturday.
The Bruins kept it close early, with a 20-14 deficit on the scoreboard after the first quarter, but it was 46-22 by the end of the half.
It was more of the same in the third quarter, but neither team scored in the fourth frame. Final score saw host Brookside Christian with a 66-30 win over the visiting Bruins.
Riverbank returns to the home field at Angelo Novi Stadium on Friday, Oct. 13 to host the Delta High School Saints.
JV game scores have not been reported.
The Bruins had time to get in some practices this past week, with no meets scheduled. They will next participate in the Roughrider Invitation in Fresno on Friday afternoon, Oct. 13, said coach Monte Wood.
