County’s Top Spell­ers Head To Cham­pi­onship

Top spell­ers from area schools will com­pete in the Stanis­laus County Elementary Spell­ing Cham­pi­onship in Novem­ber.

The Elementary Spell­ing Cham­pi­onship, for stu­dents in fourth through sixth grades, is slated for Wed­nes­day, Nov. 1 at Cen­tral Val­ley High School, 4033 Cen­tral Ave., in Ceres. Spon­sored by the Stanis­laus County Of­fice of Ed­u­ca­tion, the event is open to the public and be­gins promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Schools or dis­tricts par­tic­i­pat­ing in this year’s Elementary Spell­ing Cham­pi­onship in­clude: Ceres, Chatom, De­nair, Em­pire, Great Val­ley Academy, Hart-Ran­som, Hick­man, Hugh­son, Keyes, Modesto City, New­man-Crows Land­ing, Oak­dale, Our Lady of Fa­tima, Par­adise, Pat­ter­son, River­bank, Sa­cred Heart, Stanis­laus Union, St. Stanis­laus, Tur­lock, Univer­sity Char­ter, and Water­ford.

The top two spell­ers in the Elementary Spell­ing Cham­pi­onship will rep­re­sent Stanis­laus County at the state com­pe­ti­tion in Stock­ton on May 12, 2018. The third place speller will serve as an al­ter­nate.
