Duck Soup

What is the meaning of the term “duck soup”?

An easy task. It’s a mysterious expression (since chicken soup and various other varieties are commoner than duck soup), of unknown origin and not more than about 50 years old. Perhaps it comes from “sitting duck,” meaning an easy target since such a duck could readily be transformed into a variety of edibles, including soup.
