LA STORY: “My parents were clothes horses. They loved fashion. My father was a jazz musician; I don’t think I ever saw him wear jeans. My grandparents would take us grandkids out individually, and we would go downtown to Clifton’s restaurant. My grandfather would be in a suit, tie, hat, completely dressed. My grandmother would wear a hat, gloves, a dress. So that’s the LA that I know.”

AP STYLE: “Someone might comment on what I’m wearing, and my partner will say, ‘Well, he’s been planning that outfit for three weeks.’ And it’s true. It’s all about a feeling for me, and I feel best when I have it all put together. So that does take some thought. I don’t just look in the closet and go, ‘Oh, I’ll throw this on.’ No, it’s all well thought out from head to toe—from the glasses to the jacket to the pocket square to the pants to the belt—even if you don’t see it.”

BOLDFACE: “Cuff links and pocket squares are those two accessories that allow me to be bold and crazy yet still tailored. It’s one expression that a properly dressed man can have that will set him apart. Because a black shoe is a black shoe—that’s not going to stand out.”

“My own house is a reflection of how I am style-wise: It’s tailored, it’s put together. But it is also a reflection of being classic and having art from all over the world mixed in.”
