2 men charged with buying cars with fake money
RIVERDALE — Police say two men accused of buying cars with fake movie money have been arrested in suburban Atlanta.
Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera tells local news media that 39-year-old Joseph DeAngelo Lamb and 21-year-old Dominic Darnel Mayberry were arrested Friday in Clayton County. Police say Lamb and Mayberry used the app called “5Miles” to pick out items then meet the sellers to finalize the deal.
Police say the suspects orchestrated scams at least on two occasions within hours of each other to purchase vehicles in Loganville and Lawrenceville.
Both are charged with first-degree forgery and theft by deception in connection with the Aug. 14 incident.
Pihera says police found both men based on information on social media.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office say Lamb and Mayberry will be extradited to Gwinnett County.
Stepfather arrested in Florida after fatal fire in Georgia
MARIETTA — Police say a man accused of starting a suburban Atlanta home fire that killed his teenage stepdaughter has been arrested in Florida.
Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that 37-year-old Defareya Hunter was arrested Friday in the July 23 fatal fire.
Hunter is being held at the Broward County Jail in Florida, and he is awaiting extradition back to Cobb County. Hunter is charged with murder, aggravated assault, arson and cruelty to children charges.
Court documents show a history of domestic violence between Hunter and his wife along with an incident involving his stepdaughter.
