Rome man ac­cused of early morn­ing rob­bery at church

A Rome man ac­cused of rob­bing an­other man at Sher­wood For­est Bap­tist Church was be­ing held in jail with­out bond Wed­nes­day night.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail records:

Ja­mal Cartez New­man, 21, of 4 Kings Court, was ar­rested on war­rants Wed­nes­day for an in­ci­dent that took place at the church, 1 Good­man Road, just be­fore 5 a.m. on Jan. 9.

He is ac­cused of threat­en­ing to se­ri­ously hurt the vic­tim and steal­ing undis­closed prop­erty. He also re­fused to stop for an of­fi­cer in a marked po­lice car with blue lights ac­ti­vated.

War­rants were is­sued four days later and he had the prop­erty in his pos­ses­sion when he was ar­rested Wed­nes­day.

New­man is charged with felony rob­bery and mis­de­meanor theft by tak­ing and ob­struc­tion of an of­fi­cer.

Man says Rome woman stole his Yorkie

A Rock­mart man re­ported Wed­nes­day that the woman he thought was tak­ing care of his $1,700 dog may have sold it while he was in jail.

Ac­cord­ing to Rome po­lice re­ports:

The man said the woman who was with him when he was ar­rested Satur­day took the dog when he was taken to jail.

When he got out Wed­nes­day and went to re­claim it, she said it was dead.

Po­lice spoke to the woman, who said she did not know where the dog is and al­lowed them to search her house.

The dog is a gray and brown fe­male Yorkie/poo­dle mix who an­swers to the name of Cici. The vic­tim said he paid $1,700 for it.

Task Force: Search war­rant turns up drugs, gun

A Rome woman was in jail with­out bond Wed­nes­day af­ter the Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force found drugs in her home.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail records:

When Task Force mem­bers ex­e­cuted a search war­rant Wed­nes­day at the home of Jas­mine Monique Heath, 26, 517A Wil­son Ave., they found less than an ounce of mar­i­juana, scales, an oxy­codone tablet and a gun.

Heath is charged with mis­de­meanor pos­ses­sion of mar­i­juana, pos­ses­sion of a drug-re­lated ob­ject and fail­ure to keep drugs in their orig­i­nal con­tainer. She also is charged with felony pos­ses­sion of a Sched­ule II drug and felony pos­ses­sion of a firearm dur­ing the com­mis­sion of a crime.

Lin­dale man charged with crim­i­nal dam­age to prop­erty

A Lin­dale man was ar­rested Wed­nes­day on war­rants stem­ming from ear­lier al­ter­ca­tions at a home in Coosa.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail records:

Richard Bradley Clark, 41, of 2416 Maple Road, is charged with sec­ond-de­gree crim­i­nal dam­age to prop­erty, a felony, and mis­de­meanor bat­tery un­der the Fam­ily Vi­o­lence Act.

Fol­low­ing an ar­gu­ment on Feb. 8, Clark took over $500 worth of a man’s prop­erty out into the yard and burned it. On March 13, he grabbed an­other per­son dur­ing an ar­gu­ment and threw her to the floor.

Clark was be­ing held with­out bail Wed­nes­day night.

Woman re­ports dog scam through Craigslist ad

Rome po­lice took a re­port Wed­nes­day of a pos­si­ble fraud in­volv­ing a dog pur­chased through Craigslist. Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice re­port: The 24-year-old vic­tim said she bought a Pomera­nian dog lo­cated in Min­nesota for $360 Satur­day through a Craigslist ad. She then got a call pur­port­edly from an air­port in North Carolina that asked for $900 to ship the dog. The money was to be re­funded when the dog was shipped.

The woman said she sent a to­tal of $1,260 but has not re­ceived the dog or the re­fund. She also told po­lice she has paid to ship dogs be­fore “and it does not cost $900.”

2 charged with flee­ing po­lice

A Rome man is charged with felony ob­struc­tion of an of­fi­cer for fight­ing with a Floyd County po­lice of­fi­cer while at­tempt­ing to flee, re­ports stated.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail re­ports: Michael Steven Boswell, 39, of 1335 Hull Ave., was ar­rested near U.S. 411 and Chateau Drive early Wed­nes­day. Boswell along with Brid­gette Danielle Hol­comb, 27, of 1335 Hull Ave., fled po­lice. At one point Boswell fought with an of­fi­cer caus­ing lac­er­a­tions to the of­fi­cer’s face and a “bro­ken nose.”

Boswell was be­ing held with­out bond and Hol­comb was be­ing held on $3,500 bond Wed­nes­day night.

4 charged with mar­i­juana pos­ses­sion in mo­tel bust

Four peo­ple are charged with felony pos­ses­sion of mar­i­juana af­ter po­lice found them in a ho­tel room at 3005 Martha Berry Blvd. with an undis­closed amount of the drug, re­ports stated.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail re­ports: Richard De­wayne Fed­nan­der, 45, and Tif­fany Ni­cole Fed­nan­der, 39, both of 3295 Kingston Hwy.; Austin Tay­lor Ham­mond, 20, of 396 Ca­malot Cir­cle, Cal­houn; and Kasey Lynn French, 28, of 173 Scott Cir­cle, Cal­houn, were ar­rested by Floyd County po­lice late Tues­day.

They were re­leased from jail Wed­nes­day af­ter they each posted a $3,500 bond.

Po­lice: Man vi­o­lated con­di­tional bond

A Rome man re­port­edly vi­o­lated a court or­der to not have con­tact with a woman on Sun­day when he went to her prop­erty, re­ports stated.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail re­ports:

David Harold Chaf­fin Jr., 52, of 1 But­ter­nut Lane, is charged with felony ag­gra­vated stalk­ing. Po­lice say the woman ran Chaf­fin off and threw a shoe at him.

He also vi­o­lated an­other part of his court or­der by pos­sess­ing a cell­phone and speak­ing to po­lice over that phone.

He was be­ing held with­out bond Wed­nes­day night.

Po­lice: Felon had hid­den firearm

A Rome man is charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm by a con­victed felon af­ter he re­port­edly left his res­i­dence with a firearm Satur­day, re­ports stated.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail re­ports:

Charles Se­bas­tion DiLeonardo, 32, of 1306 Ra­dio Springs Road, was re­leased from jail Wed­nes­day on a $3,500 bond. The gun was later re­cov­ered by po­lice.

Lin­dale man used debit card with­out per­mis­sion

A Lin­dale man re­port­edly used a debit card with­out per­mis­sion on Tues­day to buy sev­eral items and with­draw money, re­ports stated.

Ac­cord­ing to Floyd County Jail re­ports:

Jimmy De­wayne Towe Sr., 50, of Av­enue E, Apt. 6, is charged with felony unau­tho­rized use of a fi­nan­cial trans­ac­tion card.

Towe was re­leased from jail on Wed­nes­day.
